To enhance your reputation, effectiveness and likability, humor’s usefulness is simply unmatched.
If you're a leader and you had a new content delivery technology that would let you walk into a room and light the room up with laughter, rapport and great feelings for everyone to enjoy and share together is there any reason you wouldn’t use it?
If it really worked as described. Of course you would.
Every leader would. Every presenter would too.
Today, the technology exists. It's called Humor.
But few use it.
Why?
Because we're all just too insanely, crazy busy to find (or think of) any humor we confidently believe would achieve the humor outcome we'd want in a presentation.
But what if all it took to find and add exceptional presentation enhancing humor to your next presentation was pressing a button.
Would you press it?
Of course you would.
Well here's your button. Press away
That was pretty good humor, right?
No one wants curating or creating humor to be a big to-do
but you do want the response to be one.
Now you can have your cake and eat it too.
Maybe you prefer a hilarious funny image over a funny cartoon?
Got a moment to press another button?
That was easy.
Ok, so apparently finding phenonmenal humor is not a problem anymore. I'll bet that's news to you. It's news to everyone.
Very good news.
A Leader's Sense of Humor and Likability

Every leader has a big board to keep track of how they are performing. Every leader's success is measured by the financial health of the organization and their employee's motivation, engagement and productivity. All three play critical roles in an organization's overall success and business reputation.
Does a leader's personal likability play an important roll in how employees feel about their company. Here's what these people had to say:
If they're busting a gut, they'll bust their butts.
Adrian Gostick, The Levity Effect

Look, let me state the obvious.
When a leader can communicate with a nice sense of humor they are going to be perceived as a better leader.
And I think we all agree people are motivated to work harder for leaders they like. Better leaders create more passion in those they lead.
And if a leader is competent (which is why they were hired) and knows how to communicate with humor raising their likability then their reputation will rise as well.
Along with their bonuses.
At least that is what the researchers in the Harvard Business Review had to say in their article, Laughing all the Way to the Bank:
"The executives who had been ranked as outstanding used humor more than twice as often as average executives. When I looked at the executives’ compensation for the year, I found that the size of their bonuses correlated positively with their use of humor...in other words, the funnier the executives were, the bigger the bonuses."
A study from the Bell Leadership Institute added additional support to the idea that humor plays an important role in successful leadership in this published report - Humor Gives Leaders the Edge:
"A new study by the Bell Leadership Institute found that when employees are asked to describe the strengths of senior colleagues in their organizations, “sense of humor” and “work ethic” are mentioned twice as much as any other phrases."
"The Bell study looked at the specific ways in which senior managers use humor to improve performance. The most effective leaders use humor to spark people’s enthusiasm, deliver an honest message in a good-natured way, boost productivity, put people at ease, bring teams together, and see the light side of a situation."
Sounds like a great leader. For executives this is the ROI of humor.
Let me take sixty-seconds to demonstrate how a nice low key, likable sense of humor can make all the difference in how a leader communicates.
In the opening of this CEO's keynote talk he moves from a stranger to an impressive leader and likable human being in literally seconds.
Notice how his smart use of understated, thoughtful self-deprecating humor effects how you feel about him...all for the better...and all within one minute.
And remarkably, the speaker you’re about to hear is not even real.
If a virtual speaker can achieve all this warmth and likabilty at the beginning of their talk, the time when people are most reticent, resistant, and judgmental about any speaker, then you can too.
As Dick Costolo, Former CEO of Twitter says:
"The point isn’t to say something funny.
The point is to remove the tension in the room.
This makes it easier for people to talk with each other."
It is irrefutable that humor and leadership work well together. Every leader looking to become a more admired and desired leader knows a demonstrated improved sense of humor can only help his or her career.
The truth is in business you don’t need much humor to do a lot. Most managers and meeting leaders don’t even think its on the agenda. They don’t have to do a lot - but if they do a little - they will experience disproportionate benefits for it.
In the Forbes magazine article entitled 10 Reasons Why Humor Is A Key To Success At Work, humor expert Michael Kerr says a Robert Half International survey found that 91% of executives believe a sense of humor is important for career advancement; while 84% feel that people with a good sense of humor do a better job.
